In Memory of Dr. Adrian Patterson – Northern VA
Remembering an Amazing Surgeon and Colleague
It is with great sorrow that we acknowledge the passing of one of our former colleagues, Dr. Adrian Patterson. He was an incredible surgeon who was admired by his peers, staff, and patients alike. He worked with our team from 1998 to 2019, when he retired, and he was a great mentor and teacher. He always had fascinating facts and information to share, and there was never a dull moment with him around! We are grateful for the privilege to work alongside this great man.
Dr. Patterson attended Hampton University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971. Four years later, he graduated from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry with his dental degree. In 1978, he joined the US army Dental Corps and specialized in oral and maxillofacial surgery and earned his certificate in this field in 1982 at the Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C.
Before joining our team at Northern Virginia Oral, Maxillofacial, and Implant Surgery, Dr. Patterson served in the US Army Dental Corps for 20 years. During this time, he received many awards and commendations, including the US Army Commendation Medal, US Army Meritorious Service Medal – Second Oak Leaf Cluster, and the US Army Legion of Merit Medal! He was recognized for his excellence and outstanding clinical skills when he was inducted into the Order of Military Medical Merit in the Army Medical Department. Ultimately, he retired from the military as a colonel after serving as the director for the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program in Washington, D.C.
As a surgeon, whether military or civilian, Dr. Patterson was dedicated to providing the best possible care to each patient. Our team is fortunate to have worked with this expert and leader, and we will carry on his legacy of clinical prowess and exceptional service.
