Dr. Adrian L. Patterson is a native Washingtonian. He graduated in 1975 from the University Of Maryland School Of Dentistry. He practiced general dentistry until beginning his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in 1979. Dr. Patterson became board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1984. He served in the Army Dental Corps in a series of important assignments including Assistant Chief of OMS in Frankfurt, Germany and as Assistant Chief of the Oral Surgery Residency Training Program at Ft. Gordon, GA. Dr. Patterson served as the Chief of the Surgery Branch at the US Army Institute of Dental Research at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. Patterson also served as Chief of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program at Walter Reed Hospital from 1994 until his retirement from the Army in 1998 in the rank of Colonel.

Dr. Patterson has published several articles and lectured extensively in both the military and civilian dental communities. He has been recognized in the field of OMS by the Surgeon General of the Army and awarded the coveted “A” proficiency designator. He was also inducted into the “Order of Military Medical Merit” which recognizes the top 10% among its peers and was subsequently recognized as a distinguished member of this group of top military medical and dental branch members. Other military honors include the Legion of Merit Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Army Commendation Medal among others. He was recognized by Virginia magazine as among the top Oral Surgeons in Virginia.

Dr. Patterson is a member of several professional organizations including the American Dental Association, the Virginia Dental Association where he serves on the patient relations committee, and the Academy of Osseointegration. Dr. Patterson has also been selected by his peers to serve as a delegate to the Virginia House of Delegates of the Virginia Dental Association.

Dr. Patterson and his wife Ophelia reside in Mitchellville, Maryland. They have a daughter, Kynesha who resides in Boston, MA.
